Restructuring Is Aimed at Supporting Innovation Across Different Time Horizons&#8221;: Shantanu Roy, Chairman &amp; MD, BEML \u2014 BEML Ramps Up R&amp;D Spending by 150% for Indigenous Innovation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML is transforming itself from a traditional manufacturer into a cutting-edge technology developer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By overhaulling its R&amp;D ecosystem and ramping up funding, the public-sector firm plans to launch 35 to 40 indigenous products across defense, rail, mining, construction, and next-gen mobility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML&#8217;s R&amp;D spending skyrocketed by 150% year-on-year to hit an unprecedented \u20b9251 crore in FY26, according to its latest financial disclosures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML&#8217;s R&amp;D expenditure climbed sharply to 6.25% of total revenue, up from 2.57% in the previous fiscal year (FY25). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML CMD Shantanu Roy confirmed the company will lock in R&amp;D spending at 6\u20137% of revenue for the next five years to fuel its push for homegrown technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"fy-26-financial-highlights\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">FY26 Financial Highlights<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML smashed records in FY26, delivering an all-time high revenue of \u20b94,351 crore\u2014an 8.16% surge over last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Production value also hit a peak of \u20b94,239 crore, backed by a robust \u20b9379 crore capital investment campaign that includes \u20b9191 crore in ongoing work-in-progress projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"the-four-layer-r-d-architecture\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Four-Layer R&amp;D Architecture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML has broken down its R&amp;D into four specialized layers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CMD Shantanu Roy noted this overhaul allows the company to pursue innovations across different timelines instead of relying on one single engineering group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"first-layer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">First layer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Engineers are embedded directly within BEML&#8217;s 14 Strategic Business Units to focus exclusively on optimizing and upgrading existing products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"second-layer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second layer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This corporate arm handles technology planning and alliance management, finding the right partners and securing collaborations to co-create next-generation products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"third-layer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Third layer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML&#8217;s Futuristic Product Innovation &amp; Incubation Centre builds completely new product platforms from scratch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its pipeline includes the fully in-house developed light armoured multipurpose vehicle\u2014now in trials\u2014alongside next-gen rail and defence systems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"fourth-layer\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fourth layer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BEML\u2019s new Central Research Facility (CRF) tackles deep-tech, &#8220;blue-sky&#8221; research through a strategic pact with IISc Bengaluru. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Operating out of the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID), BEML scientists are embedded on campus to co-create futuristic technologies slated for market commercialization over the next decade. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"future-product-pipeline-strategic-priorities\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Future Product Pipeline &amp;
