FII Data , fii activity , fii trading activity
As the title suggests, we’re going to present FII data for Q4 FY 2023. Details about the stocks where FIIs increased their stake by more than 1% (QoQ) will be discussed.
The term ‘foreign institutional investor’ (FII) refers to an investment fund which invests its funds in a country outside of the one in which it is registered .
FII data refers to the positions they have taken in the financial markets of that particular country.
FIIs may include
- Hedge funds
- Insurance companies
- Investment banks
- Pension funds
- Mutual funds
Developing nations need a lot of capital for their growth and FIIs can play an important role in that, yet many developing countries have placed a ceiling on the total value of assets an FII can acquire. There is an upper limit on the number of shares an FII can buy in a particular company.
The idea behind this is to reduce the influence of FIIs on individual companies.and financial markets in general. As we have seen many a times the damage they have done to the financial markets when they liquidate their investments during periods of crisis.
Developing nations witness the highest volume of FII funds inflow because the growth potential in these economies is generally higher than matured economies. India, being a high-growth economy, witnesses a lot of FII fund flows in its financial markets.
FIIs looking to park their funds in India must first get themselves registered with SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) .
If an FII wants to invest in India, they can do so in primary and secondary capital markets through portfolio investment scheme. This scheme enables FIIs to take positions on shares and debentures of listed Indian companies through country’s public exchanges.
However, there are certain regulations that need to be followed. For example, FIIs can’t buy more than 24% stake of the total paid up capital in a particular company . However, if a special resolution is passed and the company’s board approves it, this limit can be raised.
In Indian public sector banks, the limit on FIIs investments is only 20% of the banks’ total paid up capital.
RBI (Reserve Bank of India) has put in place monitoring systems in order to make FIIs compliant. RBI has put a cut-off limit 2% below the maximum investment level. This way, the company receiving the investment can be cautioned about it before it hits the upper limit.
